¡ã Han Eun-gyeong, CEO of Red Rose Bean |
How about adding red bean to chocolate for your desert? Sounds new or yuck? Aged 28 this year, CEO Han Eun-gyeong of Red Rose Bean invented ‘patcolate’ by adding Korean red bean to cacao and 100% animal dairy cream: ‘pat’ means red bean in Korean. Whether you like the sound or not, patcolate attracted a great number of visitors at the Salon Du Chocolat Seoul held January this year. Han’s mother suffered from diabetes and CEO Han decided to make some alternative for her mother’s snack; thus invented patcolate and it actually improved the symptoms of her mother’s diabetes. Patcolate won the golden prize and the special prize at the 2012 Korea International Women’s Invention Expositor Award. Patcolate is sweet but contains only 1/14 of the sugar in normal chocolate. Han also used red beans and brown rice of Hampyeong and Chungju to make ‘Rose Red Bean Tea’ and ‘Dangmo Red Bean Tea’. You can buy these products at Patcolate Cube online mall or Hyundai Department Store Daegu and Galleria Department Store. Han used 1,000kg of red beans last year to make the products. This year, she has doubled the sales based on the last year’s sales. Patcolate created a sensation in Deagu first and became a recommended snack for tourists in Seoul in 2015; you can find ‘Patcolate Original’ and ‘Patcolate Honey’ at danuri store in the city hall. The good news is that you can now enjoy nuts-added ‘Wormwood Colate’ also. Encouraged by this great success, CEO Han is ambitious to release new product lines such as patcaroon, patlatte, pat-rice crust and fruit chips in near future. If you are sick and tired of chocolate or want to try something new, you are highly recommended to try ‘Patcolate’.
