The 2nd KOTRA Public Data Utilization Success Story Contest
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA held the 2nd KOTRA Public Data Utilization Success Story Contest awards ceremony. The contest, which ran for four weeks from June 17, was designed to increase public interest in public data and improve its usability, and focused on discovering success stories and cases of idea planning and utilization. Eleven ideas were received, and two teams won the grand prize and three teams won the excellence award. The grand prize went to a contest that analyzed the regionalization of the secondary battery supply chain using KOTRA's public data and established a crisis strategy to respond to supply chain risks. KOTRA is currently providing a total of 56 data through the public data portal (www.data.go.kr), and is discovering and opening new public data every year. This year, it has additionally opened ‘5-year key economic indicators by region’ and ‘Current status of global import regulations by country’ that can be used to establish export strategies for small and medium-sized enterprises.
KOTRA, expanding exports of eco-friendly shipbuilding and marine equipment
KOTRA dispatched the "Eco-friendly Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Trade Mission" to Dalian, China. This project, which is in its second year, was participated by 10 companies. At the export consultation meeting held on the 20th, 67 companies including Dalian Shipyard (DSIC), Hengli Heavy Industries, shipyards under the COSCO Group, and local shipbuilding equipment agents participated and conducted consultations with domestic companies. A total of 112 consultations were held, and contracts worth $1.15 million were discussed. In particular, buyers attending the event showed great interest in LNG ship equipment and eco-friendly ship safety products. The global shipbuilding industry has been booming recently, with the advent of the ageing fleet replacement cycle driving demand for eco-friendly ships. In particular, the IMO's global maritime decarbonization policy is driving demand for eco-friendly ships. The favorable winds blowing in the shipbuilding industry are also leading to expanded opportunities for the shipbuilding and offshore equipment industry to expand overseas. In particular, Korean shipbuilding equipment companies, which are strong in items such as ship engines, engine parts, ship equipment, and liquid pumps, are expected to expand exports as there is a growing movement to switch to Korean products with better cost performance.
