21c 자동차산업을 이끌 ‘글로벌 영마이스터’의 요람
분야별 전문교육으로 산업맞춤형 전문 기능인 양성

취업난이 심각해지고 있는 요즘, 선취업 후진학을 목표로 한 ‘산업 수요 맞춤형’ 고교인 마이스터고의 인기가 치솟고 있다. 높은 취업률을 보장하는 데다 다양한 장학금 혜택도 받을 수 있기 때문이다. 그 가운데서도 부산자동차고등학교는 학생들의 진로 및 인성지도와 교사들은 전문기술교육을 위한 연수 및 교원역량 강화 프로젝트, 교육실습을 위한 첨단 기자재 구축 등을 바탕으로 우수한 교육성과를 창출하고 있다. 

국내 최고 품질의 특성화 교육을 펼치다
1999년 특성화고등학교로서 설립된 부산자동차고등학교는 지난 16년간 우리나라 자동차산업 분야의 발전과 선진화를 이끌 우수한 전문기술인력을 양성해왔다. 2010년 자동차산업 마이스터고등학교로 개편된 이후 그에 걸맞은 전문교육과정과 커리큘럼, 장학금 및 취업 지원 등을 제공하며 명실상부한 국내 최고 수준의 자동차산업 마이스터 고등학교로 자리매김해왔다. 2008년과 2011년 부산지역 특성화고교 학교평가에서 최우수학교에 선정된 바 있으며, 2013년에는 부산특성화고등학교 학교경영 우수학교로 지정되기도 했다. 이만섭 교장은 “우리 부산자동차고등학교는 자동차 산업을 선도할 창의적이고 국제화된 영마이스터(Young Meister)를 키워내고자 합니다. 올바른 인성과 우수한 전문기술, 외국어 능력을 겸비한 글로벌 인재를 양성하는 것이 저희의 목표입니다”라고 밝혔다. 

부산자동차고등학교가 가진 남다른 경쟁력은 학교에서 자율적으로 구성·운영하고 있는 차별화된 교육과정에 있다. 1학년은 전공 선택 전 진로를 탐색할 수 있도록 자동차 기초 소양교육을 펼치고 있으며, 방과 후 교육활동을 통해 전원이 자동차정비 기능사 자격증을 취득할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 2·3학년은 각 전공에 맞는 심화형 교육과정과 산업수요 맞춤형 교육과정을 운영함으로써 기업이 요구하는 맞춤형 인재로 성장시키고 있다. 이 교장은 “올해 초 마이스터 3기 120명이 졸업했습니다. 지난 1·2·3기 모두 96% 이상의 취업률을 달성했으며, 그 가운데 약 40%는 대기업과 공기업에, 60%는 부산·경남지역의 중견·중소기업에 취업하는 등 우수한 성과를 거둘 수 있었습니다”라고 전했다.

학생과 교사, 학부모 모두가 행복한 학교 만들 터
부산자동차고가 이러한 성과를 거두고 있는 바탕에는 높은 품질의 교육을 제공하고자 하는 다양한 노력이 뒷받침되어 있다. 먼저 2010년부터 4년간 ‘교원 연구 프로젝트 및 산업체 연수’를 통해 교직원의 역량 강화와 교육력 제고를 함께 추구하고 있으며, 관련 공공기관 및 산업체와의 MOU로 학생들의 실무능력 향상을 위한 현장실습의 기회를 확대하는 한편, 각 분야별 전문가를 초청해 현장의 노하우를 전수받는 데에도 노력을 기울이고 있다. 국내 최고 수준의 교육실습설비 또한 부산자동차고의 자랑이다. 마이스터고 전환 당시 실습장 및 기자재를 크게 확충했으며, 기숙사 및 다목적 강당을 신축하여 전국에서도 손꼽히는 우수시설을 확보했다. 또한 독일의 지멘스(SIMENS)를 비롯 현대·기아·르노삼성·한국GM·BMW·BENZ·상신브레이크 등의 산업체로부터 자동차, 엔진, 부품 등의 물적 지원으로 보다 효과적인 교육환경을 조성하고 있으며 대기업, 중견기업으로부터 장학금을 지원받고 있다.

이에 더해 부산자동차고는 올바른 인성을 갖춘 인재 양성을 위한 노력도 게을리 하지 않고 있다. 학생 개개인에 대한 심층지도 및 진로상담을 활발히 펼치고 있으며, 인사교육을 활성화시켜 학생들이 원만한 인간관계를 위한 상호존중의 미덕을 체화할 수 있도록 돕고 있다. 이 교장은 “사회발전에 기여하는 인재를 양성하고, 우리사회의 문제를 공감하고 치유해나가는 공동체를 만드는 것이 학교교육이 나아가야할 방향이라고 생각합니다”라며 “직업교육이 방향을 잡지 못하던 때, 대부분의 학생들이 뚜렷한 목표의식 없이 대학진학을 선택하는 모습을 보며 큰 안타까움을 느꼈습니다. 저희는 대한민국의 버팀목이 되고 있는 제조업의 전문기능인을 길러내기 위한 특성화 교육에 앞장서고자 합니다”라고 강조했다. 뛰어난 기능인을 육성하는 학교, 세계에서 가장 인사 잘하는 학교, 학생과 교사와 학부모가 함께 즐거운 학교를 만들어나가고 있는 부산자동차고등학교가 대한민국 자동차산업의 도약을 이끌 밑거름이 되기를 기대한다.

Providing the best specialized education in Korea
Established as a specialized high school in 1999, Busan Automotive High School has fostered talented students and taken part in promoting the development and advancement of the Korean car industry for the last 16 years. Since the reform with the current name in 2010, the school has provided excellent curriculum, scholarship and job support and become the best car-specialized high school in Korea. It was chosen for the best specialized high school at the specialized high school evaluations in Busan in 2008 and 2011 and appointed as an excellent school for administration in Busan in 2013.

Principal Lee says “Our goal is to foster global young meister who will lead the 21c car industry. We will make them equipped with right personality, excellent skills and competency in foreign languages.” The school is run autonomously. The first year learns basic subjects to choose their major there after and the after school curriculum make all the students have a certificate of Craftsman Motor Vehicles Maintenance. The second and the third years go through industry-oriented intensive courses. Principal Lee says “The third period of 120 meister students graduated this year. 96% of them, including the first and the second period students, have had a job with 40% in major or public companies and 60% in SMEs in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province.”

Making a school where teachers, students and parents are happy 
The school carried out ‘Teacher Research Project & Field Training’ for 4 years from 2010 to strengthen their educational capabilities, signed MOUs with companies and public institutions to expand opportunities for field experience and invited industry specialists to transfer their knowhow to students. The school also boasts the best facilities and equipment including a dormitory and a multi-functional auditorium. SIMENS, Hyundai, Kia, Samsung Renault, GM Korea, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Sangsin Brake are also supporting car parts and scholarships (from both major companies and SMEs) for the school. Meanwhile, Principal Lee is paying a particular attention to personality education and career consultation. Lee says “Basically, it is our job to foster students who will contribute to the development of the society and the nation. But just entering a university without any thought and a goal is not helpful at all. For this reason, we, as a specialized high school, encourage them to think about their lives and the goal.” Power Korea hopes that Principal Lee and Busan Automotive High School will take a great part in leading the 21c car industry.
