대전보건대학교는 1977년 설립된 이래, 눈부신 발전을 거듭하며 지역 거점대학으로서의 위치를 확고히 해왔다. 특히 최근 지난 9월에는 교육부에서 발표한 ‘2015년 대학구조개혁평가’에서 최고 등급인 A등급을 받았고, 전국 137개 전문대학 중 2위를 차지하며 대한민국을 대표하는 전문대학으로서의 명성을 재확인했다

교육시스템 선진화로 대학 경쟁력 강화에 힘써
대전보건대학교는 보건계열 20개 과를 비롯해, 간호계열, 정보영상계열, 사회실무계열, 조리계열, 예능계열 등 31개 과가 운영되고 있는 국내 최고의 보건의료 특성화 전문대학이다. 2011년 간호보건계열 전문대학 중 처음으로 WCC(World Class College)에 선정됐으며, 2014년 WCC 재선정, 전문대학 특성화 육성사업까지 선정되며 ‘세계를 품는 역량과 인성을 갖춘 미래인재 양성 대표대학’의 비전을 향해 한 걸음씩 나아가고 있다. 

대전보건대의 이처럼 놀라운 성장의 이면에는 오랜 시간 대학 경쟁력 강화와 교육의 질 향상에 힘써온 정무남 총장의 열정이 있었다. 그는 2005년 대전보건대 총장으로 부임한 이래, 지금까지 10년 간 대전보건대를 전국 최고의 특성화 전문대학 반열에 올리기 위해 헌신해왔다. 정 총장은 2011년부터 2년간 ‘전문대학 교육역량 강화사업 사업관리위원회’의 위원장을 맡아 대전보건대를 고등직업교육 중심기관으로 집중 육성하기 위한 기반 조성에 앞장선 바 있으며, WCC 선정 시에는 선정대학 총장협의회 회장을 역임하며 대학별 사업성과와 노하우를 공유하고, 국내·외 산업체의 요구 및 기술변화를 수용할 수 있는 전문대학 교육여건과 환경 구축에 노력을 기울여 왔다. 또한 올해 신설한 NCS지원센터를 통해 NCS기반 교육과정 개발과 교수학습프로그램 지원에도 노력을 아끼지 않고 있다. 이러한 과정을 통해 탄생한 자체 취업인증 시스템 ‘커리어 로드맵(WHCCR;WCC-HIT Career Roadmap)’은 대전보건대의 높은 취업률 달성의 밑거름이 되었다. 이 시스템을 통해 학생들에게 취업을 준비하는 목적과 방법, 구체적인 프로그램을 제시하고 있으며, 입학부터 취업시점까지의 지도교수 상담제 운영으로 진로에 대한 올바른 결정을 내릴 수 있도록 돕고 있다. 이 같은 노력으로 대전보건대는 2013년 졸업자 2,000명 이상 전문대학 중 취업률 73.6%로 전국 2위를 기록했으며, 지난해에도 70% 이상의 취업률을 기록하며 ‘대전·충청권 취업률 1위’의 자리를 4년째 놓치지 않고 있다.

젊은 열정을 키우는 따뜻한 교육의 장
취업률이 곧 대학의 경쟁력이 되는 시대에 대전보건대가 이루고 있는 성과는 단연 이목을 집중시키고 있다. 대전보건대는 대덕연구단지, 세종시 과학비즈니스벨트, 오송 첨단의료복합단지, 오창과학단지 등 지역 인프라를 최대한 활용한 수용자 중심의 산학협력체제를 갖추고 있으며, 학생들의 현장중심형 교육을 위해 880여 개에 이르는 기업체와 협약을 맺은 상태다. 정 총장은 “저희 대학에서는 기업체험과 현장실습, 인턴십, 기업탐방의 선순환 구조를 갖는 4G 프로그램을 운영하며 학생의 취업과정을 적극 지원하는 한편, 지역산업체에도 생산적인 기여를 동시에 하고 있습니다”라고 설명했다. 대전보건대의 이러한 취업 시스템은 전국은 물론이고 세계무대에까지 그 영역을 확장하고 있다. 2005년 국제표준교육과정개발 시범대학으로 지정된 후 10년에 걸친 노력이 성과를 거둬, 현재 작업치료과, 치기공과 등은 국내 취득 자격증으로 해외취업이 가능하며, 해외 10개국 32개 대학과의 자매결연으로 학술 및 문화교류, 교환학생, 해외 인턴십 등의 프로그램도 활발하게 운영하고 있다.

정 총장이 가장 중시하는 것은 대화와 소통이 넘치며 학생들이 행복하게 공부할 수 있는 ‘따뜻한 캠퍼스’를 만들고, 그 안에서 ‘봉사와 인성’을 중시한 교육을 펼치는 일이다. 항상 총장실의 문을 열어두고, 학생들과 스스럼없이 대화를 나누는 정 총장의 모습처럼, 대전보건대의 교수와 학생, 선배와 후배는 더없이 끈끈하고 돈독한 관계로 이어져 있다. 또한 학교 설립부터 지금까지 지역봉사와 재능기부 활동을 꾸준히 이어오며 지역과 상생하고 함께 발전하는 대학의 역할을 다하고자 노력하고 있다. 따뜻한 리더십, 따뜻한 교육을 펼치고 있는 대전보건대학교가 세계를 향해 날개를 펼쳐나갈 미래 인재 양성의 메카가 되기를 기대한다.

Strengthening competitiveness through advanced educational system
As the top health related institute in Korea, Daejeon Health Institute of Technology runs 20 health related majors and 31 other majors including information image, social practice, culinary and arts. The institute was chosen as World Class College for the first time in the health related category in 2011 and chosen again as such in 2014. It was also chosen for specialized college promotion project and Chancellor Chung is pushing forward his vision of ‘fostering future-oriented talent at global level’. Chung became Chancellor of the institute in 2005 and has devoted his passion and energy to promote the institute to the top in the field. He worked as Director of Management Committee of College Education Capacity Promotion Project for 2 years from 2011 and Chairman of Chancellor Association of WCC Appointed Colleges. He shared project results and knowhow of each college and has built a foundation for promoting college educational capacity. He also opened NCS Support Center to support NCS-based curriculum development and teaching materials. As a result, he launched ‘WHCCR;WCC-HIT Career Roadmap’ with which he achieved a high employment rate of students. Through this, Chung suggests the ways to find a job in detail by appointing advisors to each student. Thanks to this effort, the institute ranked No.2 in graduate employment rate (73.2%) among the colleges with more than 2,000 graduates in 2013. More than 70% of graduates last year also found a job which marked the institute No.1 in Daejeon and Chungcheong Province 4 years in a row. 

Passion and knowledge 
Chancellor Chung uses regional infrastructure such as Daedeok Research Complex, Sejong City Science Business Belt, Osong Medical Innovation Foundation and Ochang Scientific Industrial Complex and has signed business agreements with 880 companies. Chung says “We are currently running ‘4G Programme’ consisting of field experience, internship and company tour and promoting industry-academic cooperation.” Thanks to the institute being appointed as a demonstration college of International Standard Curriculum Development in 2005 and 10 years of global level cooperation, students of operation treatment and dental laboratory science are able to work for overseas companies. The institute currently has set up a sisterhood with 32 universities in 10 countries in the world and is actively carrying out various academic and cultural exchanges including internship and exchange student. Chancellor Chung values communication very high alongside social service and right personality. Chung always leaves the door of his office open for communication with students, professors and staff. Meanwhile, Chung has been passionately carrying out social services for people in need in the region. Power Korea wishes Chung and Health Institute of Technology a prosperous 2016.
