CEO Lee Suk-mun of Seungyou
Seungyou leads safe construction and maintenance
Seungyou wins 2016 Korea Culture Management Awards
Systematic management and safe construction environment
Lee joined a construction firm after quitting university due to financial difficulty. Back then, the poor working environment in most construction sites often caused safety accidents and the labor and the management’s safety awareness was also poor. Lee often thought himself he would have prevented the accident if he was in charge. With swelling skepticism, he quit the firm and got a position at a new safety management firm around 2000. But things were not that different in the new firm and Lee found only lack of professionalism. Determined to change the environment, Lee started to pay close attention for improvement around 2002 and he turned his own firm into a corporation in 2008 and became CEO at the age of 32. He changed the existing management system of Seungyou to a systematic one under the slogan ‘Safety First’. He invited specialists of each field such as electricity, equipment and scaffold to foster more specialists in the field in an effort to prevent accidents.
Safety Inspection and Safety Facilities Teams secure a safe construction
Seungyou dispatches its Safety Inspection Team to each construction site to prevent accidents and to maintain a good level of safety. As a result, there has been not a single casualty in any construction site managed by Seungyou so far and many specialists who once worked for Seungyou are also following this safety manual thoroughly in many places. Lee said “Safety accident not only hurt people but also affects the construction badly both in time and money. So, the best solution is to prevent it and the prevention often brings forward the period of the construction before due time.” Seungyou’s Safety Facilities Team, on the other hand, only installs standardized and approved facilities and equipment, secures safety lane, organizes tools and shelves and prevents any risk factors that might lead to an accident. In recognition of its achievement, Seungyou received 2016 Korea Construction Environment Technology Awards in the safety management category.
Winning 2016 Korea Culture Management Awards
“We will do our best to prevent safety accidents”
Seungyou also received the 11th 2016 Korea Culture Management Awards in the safety management category on 20 December. The awards find individual, organizations and companies with excellent performance in creating cultural value with the businesses and it is hosted by The Herald Business and The Korea Herald and managed by <Power Korea> and The Korea Institute of Consumer Management & Evaluation. The judges screened the candidates for 2 months before making the final decision and 37 winners received the awards including local governments of Yangpyeong County and South Gyeongsang Province. Lee said “Safety is the top priority of Seungyou. We will use this priority as a spring board to grow as No.1 construction firm in Korea.” <Power Korea> wishes Lee and Seungyou a great 2017.
