President Moon paid a visit to Daegu on February 25 to encourage citizens and medical teams and to have a meeting to bring up more effective measures to tackle COVID-19. The meeting was attended by Ministers of Education, of Interior and Safety and of Health and Welfare. 

Moon said “I would like to show my respect and gratitude to the medical teams and quarantine teams who work day and night to contain the virus. I also would like to show my consolation and encouragement to citizens and residents of the province who are calm and helpful despite the seriousness of the situation. The government is with you and we will overcome this difficult time by working together.”

Currently, Prime Minister Syekyun Chung is in charge of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters and the government is working on execution of emergency budget including special grants and reserve fund. 

After the meeting, Moon visited the Daegu Medical Center and cheered up the staff and listened to the needs and wants of the medical teams. Moon then visited Nam District Office to check on welfare system. Nam District was hard hit by the virus and confirmed patients were many. 

Moon said “The current crisis in Daegu is not a problem of Daegu itself but South Korea. As the government is working hard as well as the medical teams and quarantine teams, I ask you to take heart and work together to tackle the virus.”
