Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency is to run on flexible PCR testing except people aged over 60 and high risk groups as Omicron is spreading fast and wide. Persons with symptoms are to take RAT testing and move onto PCR if the RAT testing shows positive or the doctor asks to do it. RAT testing can be done either at a temporary testing booth or at home and it can be used as a 24 hour vaccine pass.
"Even if the RAT testing shows negative, the tester must keep wearing a mask and follow the every day quarantine rules. If the symptoms persist, the tester must retake the RAT testing" pointed out Eunkyeong Jeong, the first Commissioner of KDCA.
"For those who have done the boost shot but show weak immunity, KDCA and KECIP (Korea Expert Committee on Immunization Practices) are considering 4th shot. According to Israel that first started 4th shot, people with 4th shot showed twice the infection prevention rate compared to 3rd shot but triple when it comes to serious cases. We are monitoring effectiveness alongside side effects of the 4th shot at the moment" added Jeong.
About EU drug regulator's doubt on need of 4th shot that too many shots rather can disturb immune system, Jeong said that there was no scientific basis on the assert. <PowerKorea>
