Keeping track of your child’s feeding times, feeding amounts, potty breaks, and sleep times is essential for smart parenting. However, writing them down by hand can be tedious and often leads to forgetting things. To solve this problem, there are many apps that make it easy to keep track, but it’s still a hassle to enter the information. Is there an app that automatically records your child’s feeding, pooping, and sleeping times?
A team of 10-year veteran developers who experienced the difficulties of raising children as new fathers gathered together to solve this problem. Monthly PowerKorea met Jaehoon Jung, CEO of Temps, a startup that is developing a smart parenting app to create a virtuous cycle that makes it easier to have and raise children in Korea, which has the world’s lowest birth rate.
Making cumbersome parenting apps more convenient to use.
Temps, which means time in French, is a developer of parenting-related IoT products and platforms that give parents, who are struggling with childcare, a moment of respite.
CEO Jaehoon Jung said, “I had a hard time raising my two sons. There are tons of parenting apps out there, but it’s hard to know what to use. I wanted to create an app that would make parenting a little easier, so I started the company with a group of developer dads.”
He added “We set out to develop an app and an IoT device together, bringing together disparate functions so that parents only need to install one app to keep track of feeding, pooping, and sleeping diaries.“
Temps’ main feature, the parenting journal, documents your child’s life from birth to adulthood. It records how you cared for and fed your baby to help you track and manage their growth and development, especially important information during feedings.
The parenting journal is useful for tracking the growth and health of the child, helps to share information among mothers and caregivers, identifies the baby’s eating habits, and serves as a guide for parents or caregivers on how to care for the child.
This includes child’s feeding records (feeding time, feeding duration, feeding amount, feeding type, etc.), bowel movement records (diaper change time, feces, urine, bowel movement time, etc.), and sleep records (naps, nights, sleep duration, sleep pattern, etc.).
Combining devices and apps to make parenting easier
Temps has applied for this Baily trademark, which combines an IoT device and an app. It’s a combination of Baby and Daily, meaning it records a child’s daily life.
Baily provides a variety of parenting information and automatically records a complete parenting diary through the Kids IoT product, relieving the fatigue of first-time parents and helping them to raise their children efficiently and systematically.
The Kids IoT products consist of Baily POT, Baily BAND, and Baily EYE. The POT is attached to the bottom of the bottle and automatically records the amount the child eats on the app. The app records feeding amounts, feeding times, feeding positions, and reminders to wake the baby during feeding.
BAND simply attaches to the diaper and automatically saves a record when your child pees or poops. The app automatically records your baby’s bowel movements and provides diaper change reminders and more. EYE is a CCTV-like device that can record when your child sleeps and wakes up. It offers baby sleep monitoring, baby roll-over detection, baby lullabies, white noise, and more.
The company has now completed development of the POT and filed for a patent, and expects to launch a prototype later this year, with plans to complete development and launch all products and services next year.
Jung plans to aggressively pursue overseas markets, where the babysitting is common than in South Korea, starting with the launch of a global crowdfunding platform early next year.
Taking the lead in creating a child-friendly society
“Through Baily, we expect to provide convenience for infant care through central monitoring and reduce labor by automatically recording feedings for nurses at postpartum care centers as well as general households. We plan to cooperate with large postpartum care companies and babysitter companies in the future.” said Jung.
Temps plans to expand recruitment by increasing part-time and full-time jobs so that those whose careers have been interrupted due to childcare or childbirth can return.
“We want to be a company that builds a bridge for those whose careers have been interrupted due to various circumstances to return to society. We also want to create a society where it is easy to have and raise children and act as an axis to raise the low birth rate of the nation.“ said Jung.
