Cafes are becoming more than just a place to drink, they’re becoming a place to relax. In the past, coffee was often consumed quickly and moved on the go, like the American. However, since 2020, cafes have become more than just a place to drink coffee but also a place for social interaction and artistic inspiration like Europe. Cafes are no longer just about coffee or beverages, but also about who you spend time with in the space. 

Eoshil Garden Cafe Sijak is where the wind and clouds take a break

Located at the foot of Seonamsan Mountain in Yangsan City, Eoshil Garden Cafe Sijak boasts a big space with centuries-old cypresses and junipers, the sound of streams, rare trees and 2,500 hydrangeas. CEO Il Shim has been working on ships in Yeongdo, Busan since Shim was 20 years old and has been in the ship repair business ever since. Shim purchased the current spot of the land in 2007 when looking for a place to spend old age in good air. The cafe is surrounded by panoramic views, clear streams, and mountain phytonutrients, making it a great place for those who are tired of everyday life to heal their bodies and minds. The surroundings are filled with cypresses and rare trees that Shim bought and planted from all over the country, including 450-year-old zelkova and juniper trees, 350-year-old royal willow (dragon trim), and ferns that are more than 500 years old. More than 2,500 hydrangeas line the perimeter of the cafe and are spectacular when in full bloom. Hydrangeas usually start blooming in June and peak in late June and early July, but these days you can see them blooming in May as well. Typically, hydrangeas are blue, red, and pink, but the hydrangeas here are purple and deep purple, and many people come to see them during the blooming season. In addition, if you hike along the valley where the ditch flows, you can see various wild flowers and wild plants blooming in nature, and the bamboo forest path is also unique.

The cafe has two floors: the first floor serves Americano, caffe latte, apocato, ade, smoothies, chamomile, handmade milk tea, and the cafe’s signature hydrangea tea, hydrangea coffee, and penjisuguk tea (seasonal). The second floor is used for various gatherings and exhibitions. In January, the cafe was filmed as a special event venue for comedian Hyunsup Shim’s girlfriend in the 62nd episode of TV Chosun’s ‘Lovers of Joseon’. Garden cafes are gaining popularity because they provide people with a sense of calm, stress relief, and mental therapy. “The forest and perimeter paths of this café will give people’s minds and bodies a break from the daily grind, and to that end, we are tending and maintaining the garden and the cafe on a daily basis.” said Shim.
