Sanghwang mushroom (phellinus linteus) refers to several types of mud mushrooms, and is known to have the best anticancer effect among all domestic plants. It is excellent for preventing and treating diabetes, high blood pressure, indigestion, uterine cancer, stomach cancer, and colon cancer, and is known to contain a large amount of beta-glucan, an anticancer polysaccharide. Sanghwang mushroom, which mainly grows on dead trees that have grown for decades, is recorded in Donguibogam and Bonchogangmok as being non-toxic and controlling poison. Jungyakdaesajun states that it is non-toxic and has a sweet taste, and Dongyanguihakdeasajun also states that it is non-toxic, mild, and controlling poison. “The mushroom, which contains a large amount of beta-glucan, which is excellent for anti-cancer effects, and also helps digestion, has been known to be effective for adult diseases since ancient times, and has been called a mystical elixir in the folk medicine. It has been treated so preciously that there is a saying that ‘if you feed the yellow mushroom that grows on mulberry trees to the dead, they will come back to life. ’ In Donguibogam, it is written that ‘if you boil this with rice and use it to make porridge, it is effective for intestinal wind, fever, seborrheic symptoms, and various tumors,’ and Bonchogangmok is also written that ‘it is cold and non-toxic. It is mild and controls poison. It is good for women’s hematuria, abdominal pain, women’s diarrhea, impotence, men’s intestines, and the five internal organs, and is good for yang energy.’” These mushrooms contain high-quality ingredients such as protein polysaccharides, amino acids, hydrocarbons, fatty acids, enzymes, K, Ca, and vitamin B, and in particular, beta-glucan is known to be excellent for preventing cancer by strengthening immune cells. Recently, it has been reported that the beta-glucan of this mushroom suppresses cancer cells. When this mushroom polysaccharide was added to cultured human colon cancer cells, the cancer cells were suppressed. Up to now, there has been no report that anticancer polysaccharides or anticancer beta-glucans of mushrooms cause cell death, but it has been revealed that the polysaccharide of this mushroom directly induces cell death and kills cancer cells. In order to effectively consume the excellent efficacy of Sanghwang mushroom, it is best to boil it in water and drink it frequently. When you boil this mushroom in water, the color of the water will be yellow or light yellow and clear, and it has the characteristic of having no taste or smell, and it is mild and light in taste, so it is good to eat. The best place to store mushrooms is a very dry, shaded place with low humidity and no sunlight. If it gets wet even a little, it is said that it is better to boil it immediately and store it in the refrigerator because mold can grow.

Jirisan New Hope Sanghwang Mushroom, which started operating a sanghwang mushroom farm in Jinju Munsan in 2003 and then moved to Sancheong Saengbiryang, is run by the entire family, including the father, Kang Hoon-gyu, the mother, and CEO Kang Tae-wook, who grow these mushrooms together. CEO Kang received job offers from numerous companies after graduating from college, but he applied to become a farming successor in order to take over his father’s farming business and grow proper mushrooms. He is now running a mushroom farm for the second generation, following in his father’s footsteps. “In a career, you have to retire at some point, but in farming, there is no retirement. I think farming is the most honest job in the world because you get paid in proportion to the amount of sweat you put in” says Kang. With these efforts, Jirisan New Hope Sanghwang Mushroom achieved the feat of winning the Rural Development Administration Award in 2014 and 2015, and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award in 2017, and appeared on KBS’s ‘My Hometown at 6’, MBN’s ‘Sanorae’, MBC’s ‘Live Tonight’, SBS’s ‘Live Today’, and EBS’s ‘Extreme Jobs’. The whole family is growing mushrooms with all their heart and soul, honestly and with the mindset that our family is eating them. They recently launched organic mushroom extract to provide consumers with an easy-to-consume product. “In some places, imported fake sanghwang mushrooms or wild fake sanghwang mushrooms that have been indiscriminately collected are rampant, so special care is needed. In particular, fake sanghwang mushrooms contain a deadly poison from the digitalis family, so the elderly and pregnant women should never eat them indiscriminately, and you must always check the product before purchasing it” says Kang.
