Korea-Czech expanded summit

President Yoon and Czech counterpart Petr Fiala had summit meeting during Yoon’s visit to Czech from 19 to 21 September. They recalled that the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2015 and confirmed the solid foundation of friendly relations based on common interests and values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law since the diplomatic relations in 1990. They praised highly of cooperation in economy, trade, investment, politics, security, science and technology, education, culture, tourism and people exchange. They agreed on more qualitative cooperative relationship as next year marks 35th year of diplomatic ties and 10th year of strategic partnership. They shared their will to build more diversified and sold cooperation for the future.

They emphasized the need for mutual response to threat to order, violation of international laws, weapons of mass destruction, global supply disruption, energy crisis, climate change and cyber threat. They recognized close inter-connectivity of security in the Indo-Pacific region and exchanged opinions on Russian invasion of Ukraine, violation of UN Security Council resolutions by Russia and North Korea and the Korean Peninsula situation. They praised highly of each other’s vision and effort for denuke, freedom, prosperity and peaceful unification of Korea. They also showed their inclusive, just and permanent support for Ukraine. 

Yoon visits Doosan Skoda Power in Czech

Yoon paid a visit to Doosan Skoda Power and Skoda JS in Czech on September 20 on the occasion of his visit to Czech. Yoon and Fiala attended Nuclear Power Plant Full Cycle Cooperation Agreement Ceremony which brought signing of 13 MOUs in nuclear power design, operation, nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. When the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power signed the final contract for the new nuclear plant construction in Czech March next year, the turbines made by Doosan Skoda Power are to be used.

The MOUs also include fostering industry experts, co-research and development and building equipment supply networks. In his speech, Yoon emphasized three things: Team Korea has built and run nuclear plants safety for the last 50 years; On time; and On budget. Yoon said that Korea and Czech will play a leading role in the global nuclear power renaissance and let us be work together to open a new world.
