People with an entrepreneurial spirit are taking the challenge and making innovation. Haon Biosolutions (CEO NaHyun Lee) specializes in developing IT solutions that improve the efficiency of work in the biopharmaceutical sector.

Recently, CROs have developed CROTree, a web-based software that allows CROs to more effectively share and report results of chemical assays, cellular and animal tests to their clients.

Sharing non-clinical trial results, scheduling, and more with customers

Haon Biosolutions is a one perons startup that was founded on December 25th last year by NaHyun Lee, who has 15 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical field. Based on her experience, she developed CROTree, a program that helps biopharmaceutical companies and CROs communicate smoothly. The demo prototype was completed at the end of June this year, and after applying for a patent in July and a trademark in August, CROTree is currently preparing for marketing.

After completing her master’s degree, she worked at Sartorius Korea branch, where she was in charge of technical support and sales in the bioprocess field. She also worked as a researcher in the R&D department of the German headquarters for 3 years, and has worked in the bio field for over 15 years.

She said “As a project manager at a drug development company working on a COVID-19 vaccine, I was in contact and communicated with more than 10 non-clinical CROs simultaneously, and I wanted to have a web to share the progress and schedule of trials with non-clinical CROs. I first created a PC web program so that we could share documents together on the web, upload information, and analyze the project in real time.”

The company’s analytics and results-sharing software, CROTree, allows non-clinical CROs to share and view real-time progress of their work with clients, increasing client confidence in the work being done.

It allows personnel within the laboratory to share progress in real-time, confirm that results have been delivered to the client, keep a history of services for each client, and conveniently search and retrieve past test protocols, preparation materials, and results on demand.

‘CROTree’ is equipped with a smart result sharing solution that organizes specimen information, performance schedule, equipment and supplies information, test method, result information, and other related documents for convenient real-time access to information. Only designated IDs can access and view the information, ensuring strict security.

The company sells customized products based on the CROTree demo product, and when CROs who want to use CROTree, they can try the demo for one to two weeks, and after reflecting on the feedback, the company make a second customized program to be used on-site.

Lee said she visited a number of preclinical CROs and received feedback that they recognized the need for the product and would consider purchasing it.

Developing new business models unique to Korea in the bio sector

CEO NaHyun Lee has been trying to introduce new business models in the bio sector in Korea. One such model is ‘CROTree’, which is hard to find overseas and is targeted at CROs.

She said “I think CROTree is an essential solution for CROs that don’t have the resources to create their own programs. It’s fast to build and affordable because it’s a universal model that’s 70% built and the remaining 30% is customized for each company.”

As such, Haon Biosolutions, which has developed a new solutions program in the bio field, was recently selected as an exhibitor at the Gyeonggi Startup Summit.

‘CROTree’ is currently working on enhancing UI/UX and web design and upgrading the program. She is also planning to apply for overseas patents and go global in the future.
