Patient falls are one of the most frequent accidents in hospitals. Many patients are unable to control their bodies properly, which causes them to toss and turn in their sleep or fall out of bed while trying to get out of bed on their own. They account for half of all patient safety incidents, averaging more than 18 per day. Falls often result in serious injuries, including fractures and concussions. This is why there is a need for solutions that prevent falls.
From fall detection to prevention with fisheye lenses and AI technology
Cleverus is an AI tech company that provides safety solutions through AI-powered healthcare and intelligent CCTV vision. The company’s AI fall prevention monitoring is an innovative solution that conveniently installs fisheye lenses and a small AI PC (edge device) and AI analysis of anomalous behavior. The fisheye lens used here is an ultra-wide angle lens with a field of view of over 180°. “With a regular camera, there are places you can’t see because of the angle of view. But if you hang a fisheye lens camera from the ceiling, you can see the entire room and even the entire hallway” says Cleverus CEO BaeHyun Jae. The company has built a dataset of 800,000 fisheye photos so that the fisheye lens can not only detect but also prevent falls. In addition, AI lightweighting technology enables immediate adoption without the need for expensive servers, and by using fisheye lenses and low-cost, small AI PCs (edge devices), the company has reduced the size of the AI model by one-third and power consumption by 50%, greatly reducing the burden. By applying data augmentation techniques, the company is able to apply behavioral AI to a variety of contexts and environments, and has improved behavioral AI accuracy to over 95%, with lower costs and better performance. AI fall prevention monitoring uses datasets and AI devices to identify unstable postures that can lead to falls, such as upper body, full body, and bed-covered falls. The monitoring feature provides images for situational awareness, allowing you to see what is actually happening in real time. You can also receive individualized alerts for patients at risk of falling, with information including room and bed numbers and even the name of the patient attempting to escape, to help maximize the chances of preventing an accident from happening.
Excellence in both hardware and software
In addition to fall prevention solutions, Cleverus has also developed a smart sidewalk module solution. The solution combines limit sensors and submotors to enable speed and height adjustment to prevent body confinement. The company has filed a patent application for a ‘fall prevention patient bed’. The AI smart bed Clever Bed with this solution automatically adjusts the height of the side rails to suit the patient’s position and situation in the bed, and is currently being developed in a finished product form as well as a form that can be attached to existing patient beds. The company believes that the solution will enable it to care for four patients with one product, reduce costs by one-third compared to existing products, and contribute to stable hospital operations. Cleverus’ solution can run on the hospital’s internal network and can also connect to external networks to prevent data leakage, protecting the privacy of patients and users. “Our goal is to build an integrated medical control center, a rehabilitation center, and an integrated disaster safety control center” says CEO BaeHyun Jae.
