¡ã Everyday English School / Director Kim Hae-jeong

Realizing that students can no longer compete with ChatGPT through grades, memorization, and ratings, the education world is looking for an alternative based on the human strength of relationship building. Therefore, Everyday English School proposes a way for students to set clear goals themselves, familiarize English on a daily basis, and build rapport with their friends and teachers, while improving not only their English skills but also their manners. ¡ØOur EveryDay is a method that extends basic English to practical English and helps students become collaborative members of society.§ says Director Kim Hae-jeong.

Compete with yourself rather than being number one, so you can grow every day

Everyday English School won Language at the 2024 Korea Education Industrial Award, and again Language at the 2024 KCIA Korea Customer Industry Appraisal in three consecutive years. The school emphasizes self-directed learning that develops students’ application skills that can be pulled out whenever needed, rather than simple memorization. It seeks to improve adaptability to changing educational environments rather than immediate grades. The school’s accurate, interpretive-based reading of the passage is a solid support for student performance. Director Kim attracted attention this year for improving the quarterly mock exam scores of all high school students and for having an average grade of 90 or higher for all middle school students for seven consecutive years. The school has been recognized for improving quarterly mock test scores for all high school students this year, and for achieving average grades of 90 or higher for seven consecutive years for all secondary students. The school teaches the 4 Skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) with clear focus points (Vocabulary & Grammar) for each level. The school teaches students step-by-step from phonics - basic vocabulary - basic structures - compound structures - special structures to help them master the next level. The 4 Skills, which are expanded in order of pattern, story, nonfiction, and practice type, naturally accumulate learning effects to develop a well-rounded English language skill. Instead of being first, Kim teaches her students to be better versions of themselves than yesterday’s, so that they feel familiar with every aspect of the school even on days when they are not in attendance. Students are familiarized with every aspect of the course so that they feel comfortable coming to school, even on days when they do not attend, and the management system ‘certifies’ them.

Becoming cooperative, self-directed individuals through English

“Through the medium of English, I will cultivate students’ right minds and rule-abiding dispositions to become cooperative, self-directed individuals who are essential members of society in this era.” says Kim. She emphasizes a positive mindset in elementary school and sincerity in middle school. With this foundation in place, students begin their higher education with a stronger sense of collaboration, encouraging each other to work as a team to achieve synergy. As such, Kim’s goal is for students to be able to manage their own learning, and to be able to communicate their opinions in English, from report writing to presentations to interviews, wherever they may be in the future. Well-trained, well-managed teachers, who genuinely believe in the importance of motivating students to learn, not only help students study, but also build strong relationships with them and provide the right motivation at the right time. This is because parents and teachers speak with one voice through frank counseling and guide students in a good direction. “I want to foster students who have learned how to study properly and improve their grades naturally by enduring difficult studies, discovering their own deficiencies and improving them one step at a time, and not hoping for good fortune. I also hope that the students who have studied and grown in this way will come together to form a good society.” says Kim.
